SIS Kelapa Gading (SIS-KG), previously known as Singapore School Kelapa Gading, is a private, early childhood to Junior College school in North Jakarta, Indonesia. It is a member of the SIS Group of Schools.〔 It is a Cambridge International School〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Find A Cambridge School )〕 and an IB World School〔 as well as being fully registered with the Indonesian Department of Education (Diknas) for the Indonesian national examinations.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Singapore School Kelapa Gading )〕 It is accredited by Diknas rated "A" for Primary (SD) and Secondary (SMP) as a SPK school (national school offering an extended curriculum to both Indonesian and foreign students). ==History== In 1995, some members of the Jakarta business community felt the need for a Singapore-style school in the bustling city to cater for expatriate children working in Indonesia. Several initial meetings with Singapore’s Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Edward Lee fired the enthusiasm needed to start the project. This culminated in a meeting in early 1996 with H.E. Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Tony Tan who was also then the Education Minister. The inspiration drawn from that meeting set the wheels in motion. The team moved quickly to secure the help of Raffles Institution, Singapore’s premier school. The expertise of one of Singapore’s most respected educationists Mr. Eugene Wijeyhsingha (former Principal of Raffles Institution〔(【引用サイトリンク】 title=Why I joined the opposition: Dr Wijeysingha )〕) was utilized to give the school a good foundation. And soon afterwards the Board of Governors of SIS successfully lobbied the release of Mr. Magendiran also from Raffles Institution to be the first Principal of the Singapore International School in 1997. Mr. Magendiran is today the Vice-Principal of Raffles Institution, Singapore〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Magendiran S )〕 The success of the Singapore International School set up in 1997, allowed the Founders of the school and the educationists involved to deeply appreciate the complexities of subjecting Indonesian students to a curriculum modelled after the Singapore education system that demands high standards. The lack of proficiency in English and Mandarin and inconsistencies in the foundations of core subjects like Maths and Science observed in the pioneer batch of Indonesian students pushed for an immediate need for yet another carefully designed curriculum from that used in the Singapore International School for the Indonesian learner. SIS started two pilot National Plus schools in Kelapa Gading (North-East Jakarta) and Kebon Jeruk (West Jakarta) in 2002. The aim was to monitor the performance of the students in a “controlled environment” with the new designed SIS curriculum especially for the National Plus schools. After 2 years, SIS noted remarkable results of its students and decided it was ready to roll out the schools for the upper and middle income population in Indonesia 〔 a vision that secured funding from the International Finance Corporation.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=''IFC Press Release, June 23, 2004'' )〕 Starting in a converted house as a Preschool in 2002, Singapore School Kelapa Gading grew sufficiently to move to its current large premises on Jl Pegangsaan Dua in 2005, where it became a Cambridge International Centre〔 and then becoming authorised to offer what was then the Cambridge International Primary Program.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Cambridge Primary )〕 A four-storey building was added to cater for growth and in 2013, the new swimming pool and Futsal court was completed. Singapore School Kelapa Gading became a fully authorised IB World school in April 2014〔 and is providing the IB Diploma Programme for its Junior College students from July 2014. As part of this development, a large Junior College Library and Media Centre has been added, providing independent space and a significant collection of physical and online resources for the expanding program.
